Quickie: FeedBurner’s going away – maybe – so Schnitger Corp email subscriptions are changing
A while ago, I wrote about the fact that Google put its FeedBurner service into maintenance mode. When we started the site, we used FeedBurner to get Hot Topics blog posts into people’s inboxes and blog rolls and it worked great. A couple of years ago we added the option of using WordPress’ subscription service to do the emailing — it’s the Hot Topics to your Inbox section in the right column of most pages. It’s better and faster, but there are still several hundred FeedBurner subscribers who haven’t switched.
Google recently announced that it “will be turning down most non-core feed management features, including email subscriptions” in July. I don’t know what that means: is “turning down” the same as “no longer working”? Dunno, so it’s time for an alternative.
To stay connected, I am manually switching all FeedBurner users to the WordPress subscription service. If this is you, you’ll be getting an email from WordPress asking if you’d like to subscribe. If you do, great; just click the Confirm Follow button. If you don’t want to subscribe, please ignore it and go about your day — sorry for the inconvenience.
While I gripe, it really is amazing that we can stay in touch this way.
