Super Quick: Sandvik snaps up 3 more CAM resellers
Sandvik just announced that it has acquired ShopWare, MCAM Northwest and the CAD/CAM solutions business line of OptiPro Systems. All three are US-based Mastercam resellers and bring to five the total of resellers folded into Sandvik’s Manufacturing Solutions business so far (the others are Cimquest and FASTech). Today’s three add roughly $10 million in revenue to Sandvik, so don’t move Sandvik’s revenue needle all that much, but are hugely important to continuing to support Mastercam’s largest region.
Why do this? In the press release, Sandvik CEO Stefan Widing said, “These businesses strengthen our regional presence and our ability to help our customers, and they are a strong fit with our strategy to grow within digital manufacturing.” Reading between the lines, this may have been as much about retaining human expertise as any specific capability the companies bring to Sandvik. ShopWare was founded in 1992, MCAM in 1998, and OptiPro has been with Mastercam since the first release in 1983, so the founders might have been looking to cash out — and these deals provide a future path for their employees.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
