… a holiday season as calm as an afternoon when all meetings are canceled. Thank you for your emails, comments, briefings, and questions. It was an honor to work with you in 2024 — let’s do it again in 2025!

Above is the beautiful Belgian city of Bruges. My husband and I just returned from a trip to Christmas markets (and other things, but primarily Christmas markets) in Amsterdam, Bruges, Brussels, Strasbourg, and Frankfurt. We took this trip because Christmas markets are all about fun, food, and positive vibes — and because in 2018, we happened to be at a Munich Christmas market when a gunman opened fire at a market in Strasbourg. That news broke our hearts: these plazas are filled with children and families, groups of coworkers and friends enjoying a hot beverage or a sausage on a cold day, looking at trinkets, and low-key enjoying life. Strasbourg doesn’t (now) need our support, but it was wonderful to be there anyway.
We had a great time there and everywhere else. We ate so many sausages, drank too much Glühwein, discovered white Feuerzangenbowle, rode a lot of trains and buses, and learned that ThurFriday (the 36-hour day when you fly East on a redeye) is a real thing. We’re exhausted but happy — just as one should be after a great vacation.
Wishing you a holiday full of good vibes and great food, wherever you may be.
