Today is Memorial Day, when the US pauses to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the country. Unofficially, it’s also the long weekend that kicks off summer, when many people eat too much at the first cookout of the season.
If you’re a former or current service member, thank you for your service. If you’re not, find one and thank them!
This image commemorates the Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of the US Civil War events that took place in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia according to the US National Park Service,
In 1864, the eyes of the nation turned to Virginia, where it seemed the fate of the war would be decided. New to the war in the East, Ulysses S. Grant launched a campaign with the determination that “there will be no turning back.”
Together, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Spotsylvania are considered “America’s battleground”. More than 85,000 men were wounded here and 15,000 killed.
Let us not forget.
