The Wall Street Journal today showcases how a carpet manufacturer, legal information service and PLM vendor are helping their unemployed former customers retool and retrain for an eventual economic recovery.

The best idea comes from David Carr, an interior architect who attended the carpet manufacturer’s outreach event. According to the Journal, Mr. Carr said "The speakers covered how we could apply our skills to other industries. It opened my eyes to some new opportunities, and ways I could expand my job search."

How can you help your customers move into new verticals? What can you teach them to tweak their skills to move from automotive to medical devices? How can they expand their skill set from one particular domain to several?
