Quickie: Nemetschek adds to its media brands

Dec 17, 2019 | Hot Topics

Just across the newswire (well, into the inbox since that’s how it all works nowadays):

Nemetschek, best known for its BIM brands Allplan and Graphisoft, also has a media and entertainment division called Maxon. Nemetschek says that Maxon will merge with a company called Red Giant, which makes motion graphics and visual effects software. Why? To add Maxon’s Cinema 4D and the Redshift rendering engine to Red Giant’s Magic Bullet, Trapcode, Universe and PluralEyes solutions to “become the pure market leader in this industry and provide the most comprehensive and innovative product portfolio for its customers”.

Nemetschek says that Red Giant is “a fast-growing company with a high profitability that is above the Nemetschek Group average. For 2019, the company anticipates revenues of around €21 million.”

Maxon will acquire Red Giant by paying €70 million in cash as well as granting shares in Maxon. After closing, Nemetschek will hold 85% of the shares and the former owners of Red Giant will hold 15% of the shares of the combined entity (to be called Maxon). The transaction is expected to close in January 2020.

Not an area I know very much about. But according to Red Giant “it’s nearly impossible to watch 20 minutes of film or TV without seeing our software in use”. Cool!
